This renovation project was driven by the desire to transform a charming yet outdated home that struggled with compact rooms, poor natural lighting, and limited cross-ventilation. The goal was to breathe new life into the interiors while thoughtfully preserving its character and history.

Sustainability and emotional value guided the design approach. Instead of discarding existing elements, we chose to retain and restore key pieces such as the original main door, crockery shelf, and dining table. These were carefully integrated into the renewed interiors. The kitchen saw a creative reuse of old teak wood frames salvaged from the previous cabinetry, allowing for continuity in both materiality and memory. The home’s elegant marble flooring was preserved and complemented with new materials that harmonize across the updated spaces.

The spatial layout underwent a complete transformation to enhance openness and flow. The removal of the old car porch allowed for a dining area extension, flooding the heart of the home with natural light. In a strategic move, the positions of the bedroom and living room were swapped to enable a clearer sightline from the main gate, adding a sense of openness and visual connection. A full-length veranda was introduced, anchored by a dramatic double-height volume accentuated with Shera plank paneling that carries through to the ceiling, lending both scale and character.

The reimagined porch now includes a warmly lit approach to the home and a well-planned parking space for two vehicles. Together, these changes have redefined the home into a fresh, modern sanctuary—light-filled, functional, and deeply rooted in its past.
