The home was envisioned as a tranquil retreat for Wilkinson, a Kochi native whose years in Tanzania deeply influenced the project’s design language. What emerges is a space that seamlessly brings together two cultural narratives—earthy, expressive, and rooted in place.

The architecture embraces natural textures and vernacular elements through exposed brick walls, rock-textured pillars, and a GI truss roof clad in traditional clay tiles. These choices not only reflect a rustic aesthetic but also enhance thermal comfort and climatic responsiveness. Large, well-placed openings throughout the house invite daylight and natural ventilation, fostering a comfortable, breathable environment year-round.

The spatial arrangement flows effortlessly from a welcoming car porch and sit-out into open living and dining zones. At the heart of the plan lies a sunken courtyard, softly illuminated by a skylight above. This contemplative space doubles as a prayer area and a reading nook—offering a quiet moment of pause and connection within the home. The layout is open yet intentional, with carefully placed partitions creating a sense of privacy without compromising light or movement.

Interiors are refined and minimal, with African-inspired artwork and handpicked décor from Tanzania adding depth and cultural memory. The bedrooms, each with attached bathrooms, are designed for comfort and clarity, with ceiling treatments that create subtle visual interest. Every material and form is chosen with purpose, reinforcing the home’s identity as both retreat and reflection.

Though initially conceived as a private holiday residence, the home is now set to become a boutique service villa—an immersive stay experience that allows guests to inhabit a space shaped by two continents.
